Follow the water from the top
Rain that gets through the roof soaks the decking, then the insulation, then the ceiling drywall. Insulation can hold a lot of water before anything shows below. The crew checks the attic with lights, meters and a thermal camera so the wet area is mapped from the top down.
Ceilings and walls below
A sagging ceiling holding water is a safety issue and is drained in a controlled way. Soaked drywall comes down, wet insulation is pulled and bagged, and walls below the leak are checked for water that ran down the studs. Ceiling drying uses air movers aimed into the joist bays and a dehumidifier in the room.
Tarping and drying
Until the roofer repairs it, an emergency tarp keeps more rain out. Drying runs until the joists and remaining drywall read dry. Storm safety is covered by Ready.gov severe weather and the National Weather Service.
