Finding where the water went
A meter test comes first: with every fixture off, a water meter that still moves points to a leak somewhere in the house. A thermal camera then scans walls and ceilings for cool, wet zones, and a moisture meter confirms the edges. Water from a pipe often runs far from the break, so the stain you see is rarely the whole story.
What comes out and what stays
Drywall that stayed soaked for a day or more usually has to be cut out, along with wet insulation, while panels that only wicked a little can often be dried through small holes. Hardwood and laminate are read board by board. The aim is to remove only what the meters say cannot dry.
Pipe repair and the drying sequence
A plumber repairs or replaces the damaged section, and the restoration team handles everything the water touched. Once the pipe is fixed, water extraction lifts anything still pooled, then structural drying runs until the readings settle. The Roswell water damage hub lists the other services.
