Following the water from roof to ceiling
Water moves along rafters and sheathing before it drips onto insulation, so the wet area can be several feet from the hole. A thermal camera and moisture meter map the path in the attic and in the rooms below. A roofer fixes the opening, and the drying crew handles everything the water touched.
Attic insulation and sagging ceilings
Wet insulation loses its value and holds water against the drywall, so it is usually removed. A ceiling that bulges can be pierced in one spot to drain the water in a controlled way, then opened wider if the readings call for it.
Temporary protection and the next storm
An emergency tarp keeps more rain out until a permanent repair is made. Drying should not wait for the roofer, because insulation and drywall stay wet in the meantime. See ceiling leak water damage and structural drying for the interior work.
